Trail Run Australia Snowy Mountains Returns in 2027

Entries open Monday 10 August with a one-day 50% Launch Special

The mountains have never cared how fast you are.

They don’t ask whether you’re tackling your first trail run or your fiftieth.

They don’t mind whether you’re chasing a podium, a personal best or simply an unforgettable day outdoors.

They simply invite you to take the first step.

Trail Run Australia was built on the same belief.  That the best adventures begin when people discover what’s possible.

For more than twenty years, we’ve believed the best trail running events aren’t remembered only for who crossed the finish line first. They’re remembered for the experiences people share, the friendships they make and the memories they take home.

That’s why every Trail Run Australia event is designed to be more than just a race. It’s an opportunity for people of all ages, abilities and experience levels to challenge themselves, explore extraordinary places and enjoy an unforgettable weekend in the outdoors.

When Trail Run Australia returns to the spectacular Snowy Mountains alpine trails surrounding Oaks Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa on Sunday 21 February 2027, it will once again bring that philosophy to life.  It’s a philosophy that has helped Trail Run Australia build a loyal community of runners who return year after year—not because everyone is chasing the podium, but because everyone feels part of the experience.

Now in its 14th year, the event has become one of Australia’s most iconic alpine trail running weekends, welcoming everyone from first-time trail runners through to experienced ultra-distance athletes.

And while there will always be runners chasing the podium, Trail Run Australia celebrates the first-time finisher just as proudly as the first across the line.

Event Director Robyn Lazenby believes that’s exactly where the future of trail running lies.

“Trail running has changed enormously over the past decade. More people are discovering that it’s not about being the fastest person on the mountain. It’s about challenging yourself, spending time outdoors and sharing incredible experiences with the people around you.”

“Every event we see someone complete their very first trail run, experienced runners encouraging complete strangers and families celebrating together at the finish line. Those moments are every bit as inspiring as the race for first place.”

“That’s the experience we’ve always wanted to create. Professional events, spectacular locations and a welcoming atmosphere where every participant feels valued from the moment they arrive until long after they cross the finish line.”

“We also believe unforgettable trail running experiences should be within reach. Great events aren’t measured by what they cost—they’re measured by the quality of the experience and the memories people take home. That’s what we’ve always focused on delivering.”

Whether you’re taking your very first steps onto a trail, chasing a personal best or tackling an ultra-distance challenge, Trail Run Australia offers a distance to suit every age, ability and ambition.

The experience begins long before the starting gun.

Based entirely at the award-winning 4.5-star Oaks Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa, the event becomes far more than a race. Friends reconnect over dinner, families enjoy a weekend in the mountains together, supporters relax in the alpine village and runners wake to crisp mountain air before heading into one of Australia’s most spectacular alpine destinations.

“It’s one of the things that makes the Snowy Mountains event so special,” Lazenby said.

“People don’t just come for a race – they come for the whole experience. They stay together, explore together and celebrate together. By the end of the weekend they’ve usually created memories—and often friendships—that last far longer than the event itself.”

Adding to that uniquely Australian experience is one of the event’s most cherished traditions. Before the start, the legendary Man from Snowy River leads runners into the mountains before returning to personally welcome finishers home—a moment that has become one of the defining memories of the weekend for many participants.

“It’s something you simply won’t experience anywhere else,” Lazenby said.

The courses showcase the very best of the Snowy Mountains, traversing alpine lakes at sunrise, winding through towering alpine forests, flowing singletrack, crystal-clear streams and breathtaking mountain scenery that has made the region one of Australia’s premier trail running destinations.

To celebrate the opening of entries for the 2027 event, Trail Run Australia is offering a one-day only 50% Launch Special across all event distances.

The offer will be available for just twelve hours—from 9:00am until 9:00pm AEST on Monday 10 August—giving runners the opportunity to secure their place at one of Australia’s most welcoming alpine trail running weekends.

Whether you’re chasing your first finish line, a personal best or simply a weekend you’ll never forget, Trail Run Australia Snowy Mountains offers an alpine experience that reminds us of something the mountains have always known.

They’ve never cared how fast you are.

They’ve simply been waiting for you to take the first step.

Spring is an amazing time to be running through Tomaree National Park, with its heathy woodlands coming alive with beautiful native wildflowers and ground orchids.

Among them is one particularly special little local—the Tomaree Donkey Orchid. Found only within a small area of Tomaree National Park, these rare orchids are currently in bloom—and athletes will have the opportunity to spot them near Checkpoint 8.

When you reach CP8, please:
