Trail Run Australia Snowy Mountains to host the Australian Trail Running Championship
Snowy Mountains, NSW – 18 Sep 2025
Snowy Mountains, NSW – The countdown is on! The Snowy Mountains has officially been awarded the rights to host the 2026 AUTRA National Short Course Trail Running Championship, with the action taking place on Sunday 22 February 2026 at the Trail Run Australia | Snowy Mountains Festival.
AUTRA – the Australian Ultra & Trail Running Association – is the peak body for trail running in Australia, representing the community, supporting events, and sanctioning the official National Trail Running Championships.
And here’s the kicker: line up at the start of the UTRA50 and you won’t just be running through one of the most spectacular landscapes in Australia – you’ll be running for the chance to become a National Champion.
TRAIL RUNNING’S BIGGEST PARTY IN THE MOUNTAINS
The Snowy Mountains is no stranger to adventure, and in 2026 it will welcome runners of all ages and abilities for a trail running celebration like no other. While the UTRA50 takes centre stage as the official National Championship race, the festival has something for absolutely everyone:
- UTRA50 – Go big on the Championship course
- TRA30 – A mountain adventure in a bite-sized package
- TRA21 – The classic half marathon with an off-road twist
- TRA12 – Fun, fast, and a little bit fiery
- TRA5 – Perfect for newcomers and families
- Mud Rats – Free, muddy fun for the kids!
From elite athletes chasing glory to families soaking up the festival vibes, the Trail Run Australia | Snowy Mountains promises an atmosphere that’s equal parts competition and celebration.
LUXURY MEETS ACTION AT OAKS LAKE CRACKENBACK RESORT & SPA
The festival is hosted at the spectacular 4.5-star Oaks Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa, providing the ultimate base for runners and spectators alike. With stunning lake and mountain views, the resort offers all the facilities of a luxury retreat – think spa, sauna, gym, heated pool, and dining – right alongside the start and finish line action.
It’s the best of both worlds: the thrill of the trails by day, and 4.5-star comfort by night. 🏔️✨
WHY THE SNOWIES?
Because there’s nowhere quite like it. Towering peaks, alpine trails, crisp mountain air, and jaw-dropping scenery – this is trail running paradise. And in 2026, it’s where the nation’s best will battle it out for championship glory.
“Hosting the AUTRA National Short Course Championship is a huge win for the region and for trail running,” said Robyn Lazenby In2Adventure Director. “With more than 12 years of history here in the Snowy Mountains, this event has become part of the fabric of the region. To now see it elevated to host the AUTRA National Championship is a milestone moment, and we can’t wait to welcome runners from across Australia and around the world back to the mountains.”
