SNOWY MOUNTAINS, NSW | Snowies Trail Run Festival Release Course Details for the 2019 Trail Run Australia Extravaganza
With the prospective full opening of the Lower Thredbo Valley Trail linking Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa to Jindabyne, expected to be around February, it was hoped that plans to include this epic new trail could be launched for the 2019 festival, however, National Parks have advised that the trail will not be fully open for event use by the 24 February date, so organisers have advised that they will be saving this gem for 2020, so in 2019 the course will take in the new section of the lower TVT which is already open as well as the spectacular trails and suspension bridges traversing the Thredbo Valley.
Event Director Robyn Lazenby told us that, “The future plans for trail development in the Snowy Mountains is so exciting and it means each year we can continue to expand the festival and offer new and exciting experiences for athletes in this spectacular part of the planet. Although National Parks have advised that the trail is not open for events in Feb 2019, incorporating the lower TVT in the 2020 will be a great addition and something to really look forward to.”
Trail Run Australia is a four race series launched in 2019 with events in Port Stephens, Sunshine Coast and Bendigo with the series culminating with round 4 in the Snowy Mountains. At the trial event in 2018 the event sold out and it seems the same will happen in 2019 with the event already at 90% capacity.
Based in one of Australia’s most iconic locations and taking in some of the most spectacular alpine scenery in the country, Trail Run Australia Snowy Mountains challenges Australia’s trail running fraternity with courses that promises to delight, challenge and inspire at every turn.
The event starts at an altitude of 1260m with the 4-star luxury of Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa as the race hub. Runners have the option of 50k, half marathon, 11k or 5k options including rugged mountain terrain, technical single track, some challenging ascents, and awe inspiring downhills.
The Thredbo Valley Trail presents some of the best running trails found anywhere in Australia. Height is gained on route to Thredbo Resort, however, it’s gained along deceptively undulating single track that twists and turns with flowing descents along the way.
Even though runners will be working hard, they will enjoy some of the most spectacular views in the Snowy Mountains Region as the Thredbo Valley Trail leads us on a gradual climb through a diverse landscape including mountain ash forest, snow gum woodlands, riverine woodlands, mountain bog, wet heath and sub alpine grasslands. Among the many highlights of the trail are the numerous suspension bridges spanning the river, offering runners a brief reprieve from the trails, as well as spectacular views of the Thredbo River from above.
Runners will be afforded rewarding views of Porcupine Rocks exploding out of the rugged realms of the Ramshead Range, and discover a hidden gem in the Muzzelwood Wetlands.
