Australia’s Most Unique Trail Running Festival Returns to the Sunshine Coast

After a hugely successful inaugural event that saw runners from across Australia challenge themselves through the day, beneath the stars and into the sunrise, the Trail Run Australia Sunshine Coast 24hr Trail Running Festival returns to the Sunshine Coast on 28-29 November 2026.
More than just another ultra, the event has quickly established itself as one of Australia’s most unique trail running experiences, welcoming everyone from first-time trail runners to seasoned ultra athletes.
Unlike traditional ultra events, participants complete a scenic 5km trail loop every hour on the hour. There are no eliminations, no pressure to keep running, and no expectation that everyone completes the full 24 hours.
Instead, runners choose the challenge that’s right for them.
Participants can take on the iconic 24hr Ultra solo, tackle the 10hr Ultra in one of two exciting formats, enjoy the popular 5hr Challenge, or simply experience the atmosphere in the 5km Finale.
The festival is also designed to bring people together, with Solo, Pairs, Teams of 4 and Teams of 6 all sharing the same Race HQ, creating an atmosphere unlike any other endurance event.
Event Director Robyn Lazenby said the weekend is about much more than kilometres.
“Some people arrive chasing 120 kilometres. Others simply want to complete a few laps with friends. What makes this event special is that everyone shares the same finish line, the same encouragement and the same incredible atmosphere.”
The November event introduces a host of exciting features that build on the success of the inaugural festival.
Earn Your Place in ‘The 24’
The ultimate achievement remains joining The 24—an exclusive club reserved for solo runners who complete all 24 laps, covering an incredible 120 kilometres.
It’s a title that can’t be bought or given.
It’s earned.
Welcome to ‘The 24 Together’
Not everyone wants to run for 24 hours.
But everyone can be part of a team that does.
Pairs and relay teams that complete the full 24 laps together will earn membership into The 24 Together, celebrating teamwork, commitment and shared achievement.
The Great Team Mate Crate Race
Running clubs, workplaces and groups of friends will once again battle it out for one of the festival’s most entertaining competitions.
The Great Team Mate Crate Race rewards the club or group that completes the most laps across all participants throughout the weekend.
Every lap counts.
The winning club takes home the inaugural trophy, ultimate bragging rights and, of course, the much coveted crate of beer.
Wild Card Laps Return
Every hour brings a new surprise.
Wild Card Laps transform ordinary laps into memorable moments with themed challenges, fancy dress, team battles and plenty of laughs that keep the atmosphere buzzing well into the night and beyond.
Spin the Wheel of Destiny
Adding another twist to the weekend is the Wheel of Destiny.
Before selected laps, runners spin the wheel to discover in which direction they will run the lap and what challenge—or advantage—awaits them, adding an unpredictable element that makes every lap different.
Running for Those Who Served
The festival is also proud to continue its partnership with SMEAC, supporting returned veterans and their families.
Participants and spectators will have opportunities throughout the weekend to contribute to fundraising initiatives that help provide practical support to veterans in need.
“It’s something we’re incredibly proud of,” said Lazenby.
“Trail running is about community, and being able to support our veterans while bringing thousands of people together outdoors makes the event even more meaningful.”

Entries officially open on Thursday 2 July.
To celebrate the launch, runners can secure their place for 50% off the full entry price during a special 12-hour launch sale, available from 9:00am until 9:00pm AEST only.
With limited places available across all categories, organisers expect the launch offer to generate significant interest following the success of the inaugural event.
