SOLO | TEAMS | FAMILIES

Where wild trails meet epic fun on the Sunshine Coast!

Get ready for something totally new, totally trail, and totally unforgettable! The Trail Run Australia 10hr Ultra is landing on the Sunshine Coast this October – and it’s not your average ultra.

Set against the stunning backdrop of Ewen Maddock Dam, this unique event brings rainforest tracks, rolling hinterland trails, and a whole lot of fun to the trail running scene.

Here’s how it works:
🕐 Every hour, on the hour, runners hit a 6km lap.
⏱ You’ve got 60 minutes to finish it – or sit it out and wait for the next round.
💪 Do up to 10 laps (60km total) and the runner with the most laps in the fastest overall time takes the crown!

But this isn’t just for elites – it’s a run for everybody!
🏃‍♀️ Go solo, pair up, team up (3 or 4), or enter the Family Fun category with up to 5 runners.
🎭 Be chill, go hard, or go wild with themed laps, sneaky twists, crazy challenges, and plenty of surprises.
😎 Walk, jog or race – your pace, your vibe.

And what’s a great run without great food and good times?
🔥 The crew from SMEAC will be firing up the BBQ and smoker.
🎉 Plus live entertainment, pop-up fun, and plenty of trail banter to keep the vibes high all day long.

So whether you’re chasing the title of Sir or Lady Sprintsalot or just keen for a fun-filled day on the trails with mates, this is the event you won’t want to miss.

Let’s run, laugh, eat, and repeat.

Trail Run Australia 10hr Ultra – It’s not just a race, it’s a trail party!

How it Works - Solo and Teams

How the 10hr Ultra Works – Solos, Teams, Families

So you’ve signed up for the Sunshine Coast 10hr Ultra – awesome choice! Whether you’re going it alone as a solo legend or sharing the adventure in a pair, team or family, here’s the lowdown on how the laps roll.

✨Not Your Usual Backyard Ultra….

This one’s got a twist! Unlike a Backyard Ultra, you’re not out if you miss a lap. 🙌

Here’s the key differences:

  • You can run it solo, or mix it up in a pair or team or family with a relay-style format.  One runner on the course at a time.
  • Need a breather? No worries. If you choose to sit out a lap – or don’t make it back within the hour – you’re not eliminated.
  • Just jump back in on a later lap and keep adding to your tally.

It’s all about how many laps you and your crew can stack up over 10 hours, with plenty of freedom to run it your way.

🔔 The Start Line Buzz

Every lap kicks off on the hour – and when the hooter sounds, it’s game on!

  • 1 Minute rule: Once the hooter goes, you’ve got 1 minute to cross the start line. You must have checked in before starting.  Miss it, and that lap is a no-go but you can jump back into the race on the next start.

Before the start of each lap the following warnings will be sounded:

  • 3-minute whistle (3 blasts): Time to head to the start line.
  • 2-minute whistle (2 blasts): Check in with the officials.
  • 1-minute whistle (1 blast): Last call – get ready to run!

🏁 The Finish Line

To make your lap count, you need to cross the finish line before the clock passes 59:59.

  • If you’re late, that lap doesn’t count – but don’t stress, you can still head out again on the next lap that starts after you’ve finished.
  • Complete your lap in time, and it goes towards your tally. Easy!

👟 Solos vs Teams

  • Solos: You’re the hero of your own story – just you and the trails for 10 hours. Every lap is yours to conquer.
  • Pairs & Teams: Think of it as a tag-team adventure!
  • Only one runner is out on the course at a time, while the rest of the crew chill, cheer, or refuel. (No coaches, pacers, or tag-alongs though – this one’s all yours!)
  • You’ll all share a single race number, so don’t forget to hand it over at each lap change.
  • The fun part? The strategy’s totally up to you – swap out for short, speedy bursts, take turns on longer stints, or mix it up to keep things interesting.

👨‍👩‍👧 Family Fun Category

Want to share the adventure with the whole crew? The Family Fun Category is designed just for you! Families can enter with up to 5 runners from the same family and take on a shorter 5k lap in a fun relay-style format – perfect for younger runners (and those young at heart).

Here’s how it works:

  • At least 8 years of age: May join the fun, but must be accompanied on the course by a designated parent or guardian (18+), who is also part of the family team.

  • At least 10 years of age: Can run the 5k lap unaccompanied.

The best part? You can run as many laps as you like or simply sit some out, relax, and soak up the atmosphere at Race HQ. It’s all about fun, teamwork, and creating unforgettable memories together on the trails.

🏆 The Victory Formula

It’s simple: the most laps in the shortest overall time wins. Solos, pairs, or teams – whoever stacks them up best takes the glory.

Whether you’re chasing personal bests, swapping laps with your mates, or just seeing how far you can go, the 10hr Ultra is all about challenge, fun, and plenty of trail-time stories to take home.

You can find out more by checking out the Race Rules

Fun One Laps

Get ready to add some extra fun to your run at the Trail Run Australia 10hr Ultra! Each lap brings a new twist — from tutus and trivia to high fives and heart rates. 💃🧠🙌

Join in as much or as little as you like (or not at all!) — it’s all about having a laugh, sharing the vibes, and celebrating the trail spirit. Every themed lap you take part in earns you entries into the big end-of-day prize draw, including a spectacular Polar prize 🏆, plus heaps of finish-line giveaways from our awesome partners! 🎁  Check out the full details below and get in the TRA 10hr Ultra VIBE!

Equipment & Hydration

What Do I Need to Bring to have a Safe and Enjoyable Event?

COMPULSORY EQUIPMENT
ITEMDETAILSWHY IS THIS COMPULSORY?
Enclosed Running ShoeA trail running shoe is preferable as they provide grip, protection and drainageTo protect your feet from rough, jagged, rocky and uneven terrain.
Race NumberMake Sure We See You Shine!
Your race number is your trail badge of honour—and it needs to be visible at all times! Please wear it on the front of your torso, over your outermost layer (not on your leg or pants), and make sure it’s not covered by straps or clothing. This helps our timing team catch every second of your awesome run.

Let’s Get You Attached
You’ve got options! Safety pins will be available at registration, or if you prefer, pop your number on a race belt. Don’t have one yet? No worries—you can grab a Trail Run Australia belt online or swing by the merch store at Race HQ.

Respect the Chip!
Your race number comes with a built-in timing chip on the back, so please don’t fold, bend, or pierce it. We want to make sure we catch every epic kilometre you conquer—because every step counts!
Why Your Race Number Matters
Your race number is included in your race pack and isn’t just for show—it’s how we track your incredible effort out on the course! It’s linked to your timing chip, so we can accurately record your splits and finish time, and it also helps our team (and your cheer squad!) know exactly who you are.

Whether you're flying through the forest or crossing the finish line with a smile, your number makes sure every moment counts.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED EQUIPMENT
ITEMDETAILS
Water Bottle, Collapsable Cup or Hydration PackBring That Bottle or Hydration Pack – Your Body Will Thank You!
Hydration is everything out on the trails! When you’re running, sweating, and pushing your limits, your body needs regular top-ups to keep going strong.
Carrying a water bottle means you can sip as you go, stay ahead of dehydration, and avoid an unwanted detour to the medical tent. We want to see you smiling at the finish line—not sidelined!
Plus, a heads-up—there’ll be no plastic cups at Race HQ. If you want to fill up at the water station, you’ll need to bring your own bottle, flask, or hydration pack.
Drink early, drink often, and BYO bottle—your body (and the planet) will thank you! 💚
Mobile PhoneFor the best coverage on course, Telstra is your best bet.
Before race day, make sure you’re good to go:
- Download the I2A Event App and set up your account. It’s your go-to for emergency contact numbers and important updates.
- Charge your phone fully.
Mobile coverage is generally pretty good on the course. Even in patchy spots, a good old text message will usually get through—and heading to a higher point will boost your signal even more.
Sun ProtectionDon’t Let the Sun Steal Your Thunder!☀️🧢🕶️
The Sunshine Coast lives up to its name, and those rays can get intense—especially out on the trails. A little sun protection goes a long way in keeping you safe, cool, and smiling all the way to the finish line.
So be sun smart! Slip on a hat! Slop on some sunscreen! Slap on those sunnies!
A Warm LayerDon’t Forget a Cuddly Layer!
Sure, it’s the Sunshine Coast and things heat up quickly during the day—but early mornings and late afternoons can still throw a little chill your way.
Bring a warm layer along to Race HQ so you can stay comfy before the start or after you cross that finish line.
A Waterproof LayerSunshine? Mostly. Showers? Maybe!
It’s called the Sunshine Coast for a reason—but even paradise gets the occasional splash of rain.
Packing a lightweight waterproof layer means you’ll be ready if the skies decide to open up. You’ll stay (mostly) dry, a whole lot more comfortable, and way more focused on the fun. Rain or shine, we’re hitting those trails—so come prepared to embrace it all!
Clothing to suit the weather conditions on the dayDress for the Day – Trail Style! 🏃‍♂️🌦️
Think layers you can peel off or pop on as needed, breathable fabrics that keep you cool, and gear that dries fast will be perfect for the day. Be comfy, be prepared, and dress smart—because the right running kit can make all the difference between a good run and a great one!
A Tent or Shade to set up at Race HQClaim Your Spot – Bring a Tent or Some Shade! ⛺🌞
Race HQ is where all the buzz happens—and having your own shady setup makes it even better! Whether you're flying solo or bringing the whole crew, a small tent or shade shelter gives you a comfy base to relax, rehydrate, and cheer each other on between laps.
There will be some communal shelter available at the BBQ area and under the In2Adventure star tent—but if you want your own space, bringing a small pop-up (up to 3m x 3m) is a great idea.
Planning something bigger? No problem! Just shoot us an email in advance to let us know, so we can make sure there’s room for you and your team to set up without a hitch.
Insect RepellantDon’t Let the Bugs Crash Your Race! 🦟🧴
With all that beautiful rainforest comes a few uninvited guests—yep, we’re talking mozzies and midges!
Body LubricantChafing is no joke!
A good quality body lubricant can be your best friend out on the course—keeping you comfortable, chafe-free, and moving strong from start to finish. Pack it, apply it, and thank yourself later!
Spare SocksHappy feet = happy race! Wet, muddy, or sweaty socks can quickly lead to blisters and bad vibes. Packing a spare pair of socks gives your feet a fresh start when they need it most—especially if the course throws a few surprises your way
Small First Aid Kit🩹 While we’ve got first aid legends at Race HQ and out on the course, a little personal kit can go a long way. Got a hot spot? A rogue blister? A scratch from that “friendly” bush? Having a few basics—like bandaids, antiseptic wipes, or tape—means you can patch yourself up and power on like a pro.

HYDRATION & HEAT STROKE

Heat Stroke is a serious medical emergency and a life threatening condition which can result in death.

Heatstroke is a condition in which your body overheats and can no longer maintain a healthy temperature.  Heatstroke occurs when your body temperature rises from about 37°C to above 40°C.

Heatstroke needs immediate first aid to lower your body temperature as quickly as possible. If not, it can lead to organ damage and death.  The risk of death increases the hotter you get and the longer you are overheated.

Heatstroke is caused by prolonged exposure to heat. It can occur when your body absorbs more heat than it can get rid of by sweating.

You can get heatstroke if you work or exercise in hot conditions without good air flow and if you don’t drink enough water.

What are the symptoms of heatstroke?

If you have heatstroke, you will usually not be sweating. Your skin may be red, hot and dry.

Heat exhaustion is a milder heat-related illness that can lead to heatstroke if not treated, so it’s important to recognise the symptoms early. If you have heat exhaustion, you will usually be sweating a lot, and have pale, cool, damp skin.

Other symptoms of heat exhaustion include:

  • dizziness and weakness
  • headache
  • nausea or vomiting
  • rapid pulse and fast, shallow breathing
  • muscle cramps (known as heat cramps)
  • fainting
  • feeling restless and anxious
  • heat rash

If heat exhaustion turns into heatstroke, you may notice these additional symptoms:

  • sudden rise in body temperature
  • dry, swollen tongue
  • intense thirst
  • slurred speech
  • problems coordinating movements
  • aggressive or strange behaviour
  • seizures
  • confusion and loss of consciousness

Dehydration and heat exhaustion are milder heat-related illnesses. They can lead to heatstroke if they’re not treated.

How can I prevent heatstroke?
  • Drink plenty of water, even if you’re not thirsty. Avoid alcohol and hot or sugary drinks.
  • Keep cool — try to avoid direct sun and wear lightweight, loose cotton clothing.
  • Wear a hat and take water.
What should I do if someone has heat stroke?

Heatstroke is a medical emergency. If someone has heatstroke, call triple zero (000) and ask for an ambulance.

While you are waiting for the ambulance, try to cool them down in any way you can.

  • Give them sips of cool fluid if they are conscious.
  • Lay them in a cool shady place.
  • Remove excess clothing.
  • Sponge or spray them with cool water or cover them with wet towels or clothing and fan their damp skin.
  • Put them in cool water or a cool shower.
  • Place cold packs on their cheeks, palms and soles.
  • If they are unconscious, place them on their side with their mouth down and their chin up. You may need to do CPR.
  • Do not give aspirin, ibuprofen or paracetamol to someone with heatstroke.

Presentations and Prizes

PRESENTATIONS & PRIZES

Presentations will take place at approximately 6pm on Saturday evening in the Dining Hall at Ewen Maddock Dam Camp.  The crew from SMEAC will be cooking up a storm on the BBQ so it’ll be a great time to catch up and share war stories with you’re mates.

PRIZES

Prize and Medallion Presentations

Participants must be present in person at prize giving to collect category prizes and/or spot prizes. Safety

Safety & First Aid

Your safety is a key consideration; however, trail running events do involve risk.  Dedicated first aiders are on hand at Race HQ and on the course to assist where necessary.

3 SAFETY RULES
  1. Stop and assist any competitor that is in need of emergency assistance.
  2. Report any incident to the next available marshal or emergency radio point on the course.
  3. Compete within your abilities.

On the course there are a number of things you can do to assist yourselves and fellow competitors:

  • Slow down in steep or technically challenging areas.
  • Run on the left hand side of tracks.
  • Compete within your limits.
  • Let common sense and courtesy prevail.  We want to see you safe and sound at the end of the event.
FIRST AID

First Aid will be located at Race HQ and at manned check points on the course.  Please check the course map in the Athletes Guide or at Race HQ for locations

CHECK POINTS

There are check points on the course, staffed by First Aid Qualified team members. These are marked on the course map.

EMERGENCY EVACUATION

In the event of fire or other emergency, follow instructions from event officials.  On the course marshals will direct you back to the Evacuation Meeting Point at HQ.  Please follow instructions from Emergency Personnel and/or event officials.

YOUR SAFETY IS OUR CONCERN AND YOUR RESPONSIBILITY

Race Rules

Race Rules

A fun, fair and safe event always includes a few race rules.  Please take some time to read the race rules below and follow them throughout the event — it’s all about looking out for each other and making sure the race runs smoothly.

Please make sure you’re familiar with them before you hit the start line as “I didn’t know” won’t fly — breaking the rules could lead to time penalties or disqualification, and we definitely don’t want that for anyone.

  • Check out the Race Rules here
FAQ’s

Why Have Compulsory Equipment?

As Event Organisers we are often asked why ‘Compulsory Equipment’ is included as part of some of our races.  The simple answer to this question is that it’s about keeping participants safe, which is the number one priority in any decision making related to our events.

Compulsory Equipment lists are developed by the event team and experts in the area based on a number of factors.  These include, but are not limited to:

  1. The general weather conditions in the area;
  2. Duration and distance of the course;
  3. Technical difficulty of the course;
  4. Event terrain;
  5. The remoteness of the event course;
  6. Time to emergency response;
  7. Time to hospital/medical services;
  8. Expected participants skill level; and
  9. Weather conditions on the day.

Compulsory equipment lists are developed based on what we believe is the minimum to keep our participants safe and well if they are delayed for any reason during the event.

Most times compulsory equipment won’t be needed during an event, however in the case where participants may find themselves injured, immobilised or exhausted, especially in poor weather conditions, then the compulsory equipment will aid survival until rescue can be actioned.

We are often asked why participants do not have the option to just take the gear that they think they require, and in an ideal world, this would be great, however, we don’t live in a world where we are able to know every person’s skills, knowledge and experience and their capacity to know and understand what the potential dangers could be.

Instead, we choose to use the experience, knowledge and expertise of those who are highly qualified in this area and have extensive knowledge of the local conditions to guide this decision making.

Another important aspect of an event is ensuring that it is fair for everyone participating.  A compulsory equipment list means that each person is carrying the same gear as every other participant and that is why random gear checks are often carried out during events to ensure that the participant has everything they need to stay safe and that everyone is taking part in the spirit of the event.

How Old Do I Have To Be To Race?

The minimum ages for each race distance are shown on the Entry Tab.

Ages for entry and race categories are calculated as of the 31st December each summer (middle of the race season).

Can I Enter On The Day?

If you miss the entry closure at 5pm Wednesday prior to the event, late online entries are open until 30 minutes before the close of registration on the day.

Late entries are accepted online only.

View Full Late Online Entry Information on the Entry Tab.

Do I Need A Licence To Race?

No licence or club membership is required to take part in this event.

Do I Need A Support Crew?

No! A support crew is not allowed for Half Marathon competitors and is not necessary or required for Ultra competitors.

We do however recommend bringing the whole family along to cheer you on and enjoy what the area has to offer.

Can I Carry A Music Device?

Competitors are permitted to wear personal audio equipment whilst taking part in the event.

However all competitors must have one ear clear at all times so that you can hear other runners, other trail users and approaching vehicles. You must switch off music as you approach and pass Course Marshals so that you can hear any directions given to you, you must switch off music when travelling on all public roads/footpaths so you can hear approaching traffic and other users. So while you may use iPods/Music players, it is up to you to use them in a safe manner so that you remain aware of your surroundings and things happening around you at all times.

This is for safety reasons to ensure that runners can be alert to their environment and ensure it is an enjoyable experience for all involved.

What Equipment Will I Need For The Event?

Participants are required to be self-sufficient for the event.

  • View the Event Equipment List on the Event Details Tab.

What Happens If An Event Is Cancelled Or Rescheduled?

A decision to cancel or reschedule an event will not be made lightly, however our main focus is competitor safety and respect for the environment in which we operate.  Sometimes situations outside of our control do result in this outcome.

  • A decision on event cancellation or rescheduling may be made on the evening before or on the day of an event.
  • If an event is cancelled a notice will be posted on the event website and social media channels.
  • Full details of applicable credits in the case of a cancellation or rescheduling can be found in the Event Refund Policy

Can I Change Or Transfer My Entry?

It is forbidden to participate in an event under another competitor’s name or to offer your entry to another participant. Transfer of entry to another competitor is not permitted. Details about changing entry details are outlined in the Event Transfer Policy

What If I Have To Withdraw From The Event?

If you are unable to make the event full details are outlined in the EVENT REFUND POLICY outlining necessary actions and follow up in the case of an applicable refund or credit.

Can I Run With A Pram Or Stroller?

Due to the nature of the trails used for the event, running with prams and/or strollers is not permitted.

Do I have to stay for presentations?

Staying for the presentations is not compulsory, however, it is a great way to finish the day and cheer on fellow competitors.  If you are unable to attend the presentation you will not be eligible for random draw prizes.

Medals and prizes can only be given to the actual recipient at presentations, other persons can not collect them on behalf of the recipient.

What if I’ve won a prize or medal & can’t stay for presentations?

If a prize winner is unable to stay for the Prize Giving Ceremony they may organise for their prize and/or token/medallion to be posted to them by contacting the team and sending a registered post bag (no bigger than A4 size for each person) with postage paid to the address below. Prizes and tokens/medallions must be claimed within 4 weeks of the event.

Solo, Pairs & Teams - 6k Course

TRAIL RUN AUSTRALIA | 10hr ULTRA | 6K SOLO, PAIRS & TEAMS COURSE

Solo, Pairs & Teams – 6km of Wild, Muddy Magic!

For our competitive runners, get ready to dive headfirst into a rainforest adventure! The 6km course at Trail Run Australia Sunshine Coast is a rollercoaster of wild terrain, stunning scenery, and heart-pumping fun that’ll leave you grinning from ear to ear—probably with a splash of mud, too.

This isn’t your average jog in the park. This is off-road trail running at its best! You’ll wind through lush, fern-filled rainforest on singletrack, splash through creek crossings, and dance over rocky trails that’ll keep you on your toes. With open fire trails thrown in to stretch the legs… before diving straight back into the wild.

Expect mud. Expect water. Expect the kind of terrain that makes trail running totally addictive.

And the best part?

The lap finishes right through Race HQ, where the cheers are loud, the energy is high, and the vibe is electric. Soak it in, fuel up, and if you’re racing—get ready to roll out again next hour.

Lace up your grippiest shoes, bring your wild side, and get ready to experience the Sunshine Coast like never before—raw, real, and amazingly fun.

Family Fun - 5k Course

This scenic 5km course winds through fern-filled rainforest, shady singletrack, and flowing fire trails—offering a taste of the wild beauty that makes the Sunshine Coast hinterland so special. It’s a relaxed, fun-focused option designed for families who wants to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the trails at their own pace.

Walk it, jog it, or run it—this is your adventure, your way. And yes… you might get a little wet or muddy!
