National Champs

AUTRA & the National Short Course Trail Championships

Anyone can take part in the Trail Run Australia UTRA50—all you need is to meet the minimum age requirement. However, to be officially recognised (and eligible to win) the 2026 AUTRA National Short Course Trail Championship, you must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident. Visitors on work permits, student visas, or tourist visas are not eligible for the Championship title.

You don’t need to be an AUTRA member to race the Championships, but membership comes with perks—including $10 off your entry.

Open National Championships

  • The first 3 male and female finishers in the UTRA50, aged 24 years or older on race day, will be awarded the AUTRA National Championship titles.

Junior National Championships

  • The first 3 male and female finishers in the UTRA50, aged under 24 years on race day, will be awarded the AUTRA Junior National Championship titles.

Age Group National Championships

  • The first place male and female in each UTRA50 age group category will be awarded an AUTRA National Championship title.

  • Second and third place in each age group will receive Trail Run Australia awards.

CUPLESS EVENT

To reduce waste, Trail Run Australia is a cupless event which means there are no drinking cups provided at the aid stations.  Athletes are required to carry a cup, hydration pack or bottles which can be refilled as required.

A limited supply of soft water bottles will be on sale at the event expo, however, we encourage athletes to purchase the hydration method of choice prior to the event and use it in training.

SUPPORT BOXES

Athletes are permitted to have support boxes with personal equipment, hydration, nutrition etc, which will be transported to and made available at the locations outlined below.  The Support Boxes must be:

  1. No more than 30 litres capacity with dimensions no bigger then 40cm (L) x 30cm (W) x 30cm (H);
  2. Sealed and waterproof; and
  3. Labelled clearly with the following information on the top and outside of the box
    1. Participants Name
    2. Box Number
      1. Box Number 1 = This is the box that will be transported to Aid Station 1 at Gaden Trout Hatchery (10.7km)
      2. Box Number 2 = This is the box that will remain at Aid Station 3 at Lake Crackenback Resort (31.1km)

As boxes will be left overnight to be transported to the check points early on Sunday morning where they will be in the outdoors it is recommended to not leave any perishable food or nutrition items in the box.

Support Box Drop

Support boxes are to be left at registration at Lake Crackenback Resort on Saturday anytime from 3pm to 7pm.

Boxes will be returned to Race HQ once all participants have passed the aid stations. Athletes must display a valid race number for box access/collection.

Support Crews

UTRA50 SUPPORT CREW INFORMATION – Semi Supported Event

The UTRA50 and TRA30 are semi supported events.  This means that participants may receive equipment, nutrition and support from a support person or support crew ONLY at the locations listed below:

  1. Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa
  2. Ngarigo Campground

The remainder of the event is Self Supported which means that No Outside Assistance is permitted outside of these areas and participants must carry all the compulsory equipment, nutrition and hydration with them.  This is due to course access restrictions.

Please note it is not compulsory to have a support crew and runners can easily use equipment boxes and aid stations to self support.

TRAVELLING TO NGARIGO CAMPGROUND

Support crew can drive from Lake Crackenback to Ngarigo Campground along the Alpine Way.  The journey takes approx. 8mins.

National Parks charge a fee of $17 per vehicle per day (24hrs) and motorcycles $7 (24hrs). The pass is purchased at the toll point on the Alpine Way.

Those who wish to visit more often may choose to purchase a multi-day pass.

UTRA50 COMPULSORY EQUIPMENT

COMPULSORY EQUIPMENT CHECKS FOR UTRA50 & TRA30

Saturday | 3pm to 7pm

All athletes in the UTRA50 and TRA30 must have their compulsory equipment checked BEFORE collecting race packs on Saturday at Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa.

If athletes fail an equipment check at registration they will need to find a replacement item before collecting the race pack.  Registration and equipment check is only open on Saturday afternoon.  There is NO REGISTRATION ON SUNDAY.  This is due to time constraints so we can allow the maximum time possible for athletes to complete the event in daylight hours.

So the key take out is… Have ALL the compulsory and discretionary equipment with you on Saturday at Registration.

WHY IS COMPULSORY EQUIPMENT REQUIRED?

Basically it’s so you can have a safe and enjoyable event and you have options to look after yourself in the unlikely event of an injury or illness.

ON COURSE & START LINE EQUIPMENT CHECKS & PENALTIES

Random equipment checks can occur at any time during the event.  For fairness to all athletes, a 30 minute time penalty will apply for every item that is missing.  This time penalty will be served at the location of the equipment check point so a runner will not be able to proceed on course until the time penalty is served.

During this time, the runner must arrange for the missing items(s) to be replaced or they will not be permitted to continue on course even after the time penalty has been served.  For severe breaches of compulsory equipment or failure to comply with the requests of event marshals, the runner may be disqualified.

Where it is not feasible to serve a time penalty on course, the time penalty will be added to the runner’s overall.

Start Line Equipment Check

Runners must show that they have 2 litres of water and all compulsory equipment with them for entry to the start line

NUTRITION & HYDRATION

Nutrition and hydration play a major part in your experience at the event, It can mean the difference between finishing or not making it to the finish line and will definitely make a difference in your performance and enjoyment on the day.

It is recommended that athletes train with their planned nutrition before the event so your body is used to what will fuel it on the day.

Athlete Equipment boxes are located throughout the course, where athletes can access their own nutrition, hydration and equipment (please see Support Box Information below)

Aid Stations, which are generously stocked with water and nutrition are also located on the course.  Please refer to the Aid Station information for full details.

MEDICAL

UTRA 50 and TRA 30 are both physically demanding events.  The event has experienced medical and first aid personnel located at check points throughout the course, however, some of the course includes remote wilderness trails which may mean that medical assistance can take longer than usual to arrive.  Below are some tips that could assist you in avoiding a medical situation or managing one if it occurs.

  1. Stay well hydrated: Hydrate well before the start.  Urine that is clear before you start the event is a good indicator that you are well hydrated.  Drink regularly and often throughout the entire event.
  2. Stay well fuelled: Your body needs fuel to function and even more so during strenuous activity.  Feed it!  Train with the nutrition you will use on the day so your body knows what to expect.  Take small snacks often.
  3. Be prepared for the weather conditions: Plan your clothing and equipment to match the weather conditions on the day. There could be a significant drop in temperature between the start and the top of the course.
  4. Look after each other:  We’re all out here to have a great time and enjoy the event, look out for other athletes, assist in an emergency and report any incidents or concerns to the next marshal on the course.  Support each other along the way.
Hydration

HYDRATION & HEAT STROKE

Heat Stroke is a serious medical emergency and a life threatening condition which can result in death.

Heatstroke is a condition in which your body overheats and can no longer maintain a healthy temperature.  Heatstroke occurs when your body temperature rises from about 37°C to above 40°C.

Heatstroke needs immediate first aid to lower your body temperature as quickly as possible. If not, it can lead to organ damage and death.  The risk of death increases the hotter you get and the longer you are overheated.

Heatstroke is caused by prolonged exposure to heat. It can occur when your body absorbs more heat than it can get rid of by sweating.

You can get heatstroke if you work or exercise in hot conditions without good air flow and if you don’t drink enough water.

What are the symptoms of heatstroke?

If you have heatstroke, you will usually not be sweating. Your skin may be red, hot and dry.

Heat exhaustion is a milder heat-related illness that can lead to heatstroke if not treated, so it’s important to recognise the symptoms early. If you have heat exhaustion, you will usually be sweating a lot, and have pale, cool, damp skin.

Other symptoms of heat exhaustion include:

  • dizziness and weakness
  • headache
  • nausea or vomiting
  • rapid pulse and fast, shallow breathing
  • muscle cramps (known as heat cramps)
  • fainting
  • feeling restless and anxious
  • heat rash

If heat exhaustion turns into heatstroke, you may notice these additional symptoms:

  • sudden rise in body temperature
  • dry, swollen tongue
  • intense thirst
  • slurred speech
  • problems coordinating movements
  • aggressive or strange behaviour
  • seizures
  • confusion and loss of consciousness

Dehydration and heat exhaustion are milder heat-related illnesses. They can lead to heatstroke if they’re not treated.

How can I prevent heatstroke?

  • Drink plenty of water, even if you’re not thirsty. Avoid alcohol and hot or sugary drinks.
  • Keep cool — try to avoid direct sun and wear lightweight, loose cotton clothing.
  • Wear a hat and take water.

What should I do if someone has heat stroke?

Heatstroke is a medical emergency. If someone has heatstroke, call triple zero (000) and ask for an ambulance.

While you are waiting for the ambulance, try to cool them down in any way you can.

  • Give them sips of cool fluid if they are conscious.
  • Lay them in a cool shady place.
  • Remove excess clothing.
  • Sponge or spray them with cool water or cover them with wet towels or clothing and fan their damp skin.
  • Put them in cool water or a cool shower.
  • Place cold packs on their cheeks, palms and soles.
  • If they are unconscious, place them on their side with their mouth down and their chin up. You may need to do CPR.
  • Do not give aspirin, ibuprofen or paracetamol to someone with heatstroke.

PARKING, EVENT START, TRAVEL AND START EQUPMENT CHECK

UTRA50 PARKING

Parking for the UTRA50 and TRA30 is located within the resort grounds at Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa

UTRA50 EVENT START | 6:30am

The start for the UTRA50 and TRA30 will be a self seeded mass start from Claypits Park, Jindabyne.

Claypits Park is located on the banks of Lake Jindabyne and accessed from the roundabout at the the junction of Koscisuzko Road and Barry Way.  It is approx 16min drive from Race HQ at Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa.

TRAVEL TO THE START

DRIVING TO THE START: DROP & GO ZONE – LIMITED PARKING

Please note there is LIMITED PARKING ONLY at Claypits Park, however, a Drop & Go zone will be set up where athletes can be dropped by supporters for the start.

START CHECK IN & EQUIPMENT CHECK

Check in for the UTRA50 and TRA30 will open at 6am and will close at 6:25am.

Runners will be required to check in with the stamped wrist band identifying that you have attended the equipment check and briefing on Saturday evening.  No stamped wrist band = no entry to the start line.

Athletes who do not bring their stamped wrist band to the start must wait to attend the race brief after the start. After the brief athletes will be permitted access to the start line.  This is to ensure that all athletes taking part have all the information they need to have a safe, fun and enjoyable race.

At In2Adventure we don’t usually have cut off times and wherever possible make every effort to enable competitors to finish the event, however, to ensure participants are safely back at Race HQ  participants are advised to train to achieve the times outlined in the table below

The pace for the UTRA50 is an average of 13:24 min per km.  But don’t worry, if you feel this pace may be outside of what you can run / hike you can still be a part of the action and might like to consider the TRA30 option which only requires a pace of 18:20 min per km

CUPLESS EVENT

To reduce waste, Trail Run Australia is a cupless event which means there are no drinking cups provided at the aid stations.  Athletes are required to carry a cup, hydration pack or bottles which can be refilled as required.

A limited supply of soft water bottles will be on sale at the event expo, however, we encourage athletes to purchase the hydration method of choice prior to the event and use it in training.

SUPPORT BOXES

Athletes are permitted to have support boxes with personal equipment, hydration, nutrition etc, which will be transported to and made available at the locations outlined below.  The Support Boxes must be:

  1. No more than 30 litres capacity with dimensions no bigger then 40cm (L) x 30cm (W) x 30cm (H);
  2. Sealed and waterproof; and
  3. Labelled clearly with the following information on the top and outside of the box
    1. Participants Name
    2. Box Number
      1. Box Number 1 = This is the box that will be transported to Aid Station 1 at Gaden Trout Hatchery (10.7km)
      2. Box Number 2 = This is the box that will remain at Aid Station 3 at the finish at Lake Crackenback Resort (31.1km)

As boxes will be left overnight to be transported to the check points early on Sunday morning where they will be in the outdoors it is recommended to not leave any perishable food or perishable nutrition items in the box.

Support Box Drop

Support boxes are to be left at registration at Lake Crackenback Resort on Saturday anytime from 3pm to 7pm.

Boxes will be returned to Race HQ once all participants have passed the aid stations. This could be as late as 5pm. If you do not wish to wait for your box to be transported you may collect the box from Ngarigo Campground yourself.  Athletes must display a valid race number for box access/collection.

TRA30 COMPULSORY EQUIPMENT

COMPULSORY EQUIPMENT CHECKS FOR UTRA50 & TRA30

Saturday | 3pm to 7pm

All athletes in the UTRA50 and TRA30 must have their compulsory equipment checked BEFORE collecting race packs on Saturday at Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa.

If athletes fail an equipment check at registration they will need to find a replacement item before collecting the race pack.  Registration and equipment check is only open on Saturday afternoon.  There is NO REGISTRATION ON SUNDAY.  This is due to time constraints so we can allow the maximum time possible for athletes to complete the event in daylight hours.

So the key take out is… Have ALL the compulsory and discretionary equipment with you on Saturday at Registration.

ON COURSE & START LINE EQUIPMENT CHECKS & PENALTIES

Random equipment checks can occur at any time during the event.  For fairness to all athletes, a 30 minute time penalty will apply for every item that is missing.  This time penalty will be served at the location of the equipment check point so a runner will not be able to proceed on course until the time penalty is served.

During this time, the runner must arrange for the missing items(s) to be replaced or they will not be permitted to continue on course even after the time penalty has been served.  For severe breaches of compulsory equipment or failure to comply with the requests of event marshals, the runner may be disqualified.

Where it is not feasible to serve a time penalty on course, the time penalty will be added to the runner’s overall.

Start Line Equipment Check

Runners must show that they have 2 litres of water and all compulsory equipment with them for entry to the start line

NUTRITION & HYDRATION

Nutrition and hydration play a major part in your experience at the event, It can mean the difference between finishing or not making it to the finish line and will definitely make a difference in your performance and enjoyment on the day.

It is recommended that athletes train with their planned nutrition before the event so your body is used to what will fuel it on the day.

Athlete Equipment boxes are located throughout the course, where athletes can access their own nutrition, hydration and equipment (please see Support Box Information below)

Aid Stations, which are generously stocked with water and nutrition are also located on the course.  Please refer to the Aid Station information for full details.

MEDICAL

UTRA 50 and TRA 30 are both physically demanding events.  The event has experienced medical and first aid personnel located at check points throughout the course, however, some of the course includes remote wilderness trails which may mean that medical assistance can take longer than usual to arrive.  Below are some tips that could assist you in avoiding a medical situation or managing one if it occurs.

  1. Stay well hydrated: Hydrate well before the start.  Urine that is clear before you start the event is a good indicator that you are well hydrated.  Drink regularly and often throughout the entire event.
  2. Stay well fuelled: Your body needs fuel to function and even more so during strenuous activity.  Feed it!  Train with the nutrition you will use on the day so your body knows what to expect.  Take small snacks often.
  3. Be prepared for the weather conditions: Plan your clothing and equipment to match the weather conditions on the day. There could be a significant drop in temperature between the start and the top of the course.
  4. Look after each other:  We’re all out here to have a great time and enjoy the event, look out for other athletes, assist in an emergency and report any incidents or concerns to the next marshal on the course.  Support each other along the way.
Hydration

HYDRATION & HEAT STROKE

Heat Stroke is a serious medical emergency and a life threatening condition which can result in death.

Heatstroke is a condition in which your body overheats and can no longer maintain a healthy temperature.  Heatstroke occurs when your body temperature rises from about 37°C to above 40°C.

Heatstroke needs immediate first aid to lower your body temperature as quickly as possible. If not, it can lead to organ damage and death.  The risk of death increases the hotter you get and the longer you are overheated.

Heatstroke is caused by prolonged exposure to heat. It can occur when your body absorbs more heat than it can get rid of by sweating.

You can get heatstroke if you work or exercise in hot conditions without good air flow and if you don’t drink enough water.

What are the symptoms of heatstroke?

If you have heatstroke, you will usually not be sweating. Your skin may be red, hot and dry.

Heat exhaustion is a milder heat-related illness that can lead to heatstroke if not treated, so it’s important to recognise the symptoms early. If you have heat exhaustion, you will usually be sweating a lot, and have pale, cool, damp skin.

Other symptoms of heat exhaustion include:

  • dizziness and weakness
  • headache
  • nausea or vomiting
  • rapid pulse and fast, shallow breathing
  • muscle cramps (known as heat cramps)
  • fainting
  • feeling restless and anxious
  • heat rash

If heat exhaustion turns into heatstroke, you may notice these additional symptoms:

  • sudden rise in body temperature
  • dry, swollen tongue
  • intense thirst
  • slurred speech
  • problems coordinating movements
  • aggressive or strange behaviour
  • seizures
  • confusion and loss of consciousness

Dehydration and heat exhaustion are milder heat-related illnesses. They can lead to heatstroke if they’re not treated.

How can I prevent heatstroke?

  • Drink plenty of water, even if you’re not thirsty. Avoid alcohol and hot or sugary drinks.
  • Keep cool — try to avoid direct sun and wear lightweight, loose cotton clothing.
  • Wear a hat and take water.

What should I do if someone has heat stroke?

Heatstroke is a medical emergency. If someone has heatstroke, call triple zero (000) and ask for an ambulance.

While you are waiting for the ambulance, try to cool them down in any way you can.

  • Give them sips of cool fluid if they are conscious.
  • Lay them in a cool shady place.
  • Remove excess clothing.
  • Sponge or spray them with cool water or cover them with wet towels or clothing and fan their damp skin.
  • Put them in cool water or a cool shower.
  • Place cold packs on their cheeks, palms and soles.
  • If they are unconscious, place them on their side with their mouth down and their chin up. You may need to do CPR.
  • Do not give aspirin, ibuprofen or paracetamol to someone with heatstroke.

Parking for the UTRA50 and TRA30 is located within the resort grounds at Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa

UTRA30 EVENT START | 6:30am

The start for the UTRA50 and TRA30 will be a self seeded mass start from Claypits Park, Jindabyne.

Claypits Park is located on the banks of Lake Jindabyne and accessed from the roundabout at the the junction of Koscisuzko Road and Barry Way.  It is approx 16min drive from Race HQ at Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa.

TRAVEL TO THE START

Runners will be required to check in with the stamped wrist band identifying that you have attended the equipment check and briefing on Saturday evening.  No stamped wrist band = no entry to the start line.

Athletes who do not bring their stamped wrist band to the start must wait to attend the race brief after the start. After the brief athletes will be permitted access to the start line.  This is to ensure that all athletes taking part have all the information they need to have a safe, fun and enjoyable race.

CUPLESS EVENT

To reduce waste, Trail Run Australia is a cupless event which means there are no drinking cups provided at the aid stations.  Athletes are required to carry a cup, hydration pack or bottles which can be refilled as required.

A limited supply of soft water bottles will be on sale at the event expo, however, we encourage athletes to purchase the hydration method of choice prior to the event and use it in training.

ON COURSE EQUIPMENT CHECKS & PENALTIES

Random equipment checks can occur at any time during the event.  For fairness to all athletes, a 30 minute time penalty will apply for every item that is missing.  This time penalty will be served at the location of the equipment check point so a runner will not be able to proceed on course until the time penalty is served.

During this time, the runner must arrange for the missing items(s) to be replaced or they will not be permitted to continue on course even after the time penalty has been served.  For severe breaches of compulsory equipment or failure to comply with the requests of event marshals, the runner may be disqualified.

Where it is not feasible to serve a time penalty on course, the time penalty will be added to the runner’s overall

NUTRITION & HYDRATION

Nutrition and hydration play a major part in your experience at the event, It can mean the difference between finishing or not making it to the finish line and will definitely make a difference in your performance and enjoyment on the day.

It is recommended that athletes train with their planned nutrition before the event so your body is used to what will fuel it on the day.

MEDICAL

Trail Run Australia is a physically demanding event.  The event has experienced medical and first aid personnel located at check points throughout the course, however, some of the course includes remote wilderness trails which may mean that medical assistance can take longer than usual to arrive.  Below are some tips that could assist you in avoiding a medical situation or managing one if it occurs.

  1. Stay well hydrated: Hydrate well before the start.  Urine that is clear before you start the event is a good indicator that you are well hydrated.  Drink regularly and often throughout the entire event.
  2. Stay well fuelled: Your body needs fuel to function and even more so during strenuous activity.  Feed it!  Train with the nutrition you will use on the day so your body knows what to expect.  Take small snacks often.
  3. Be prepared for the weather conditions: Plan your clothing and equipment to match the weather conditions on the day. There could be a significant drop in temperature between the start and the top of the course.
  4. Look after each other:  We’re all out here to have a great time and enjoy the event, look out for other athletes, assist in an emergency and report any incidents or concerns to the next marshal on the course.  Support each other along the way.

TRA12 runners park at the Bullocks Flat Ski Tube Car Park and take the short 800m FREE bus shuttle ride to the resort and depart to the start on the pre-booked bus.

The start for the TRA12 will be a self seeded mass start from Race HQ at Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa.

Course Closure

TRA12 COURSE CLOSURE

At In2Adventure we don’t usually have cut off times and wherever possible make every effort to enable competitors to finish the event, however, to ensure participants are safely back at Race HQ  participants are advised to train to achieve a pace outlined below/

The pace for the TRA12 is an average of 15:00 min per km which allows 3:00hrs to run / hike the distance and be back at Race HQ before the cut off time at 4pm ready for presentations.

Hydration

HYDRATION & HEAT STROKE

Heat Stroke is a serious medical emergency and a life threatening condition which can result in death.

Heatstroke is a condition in which your body overheats and can no longer maintain a healthy temperature.  Heatstroke occurs when your body temperature rises from about 37°C to above 40°C.

Heatstroke needs immediate first aid to lower your body temperature as quickly as possible. If not, it can lead to organ damage and death.  The risk of death increases the hotter you get and the longer you are overheated.

Heatstroke is caused by prolonged exposure to heat. It can occur when your body absorbs more heat than it can get rid of by sweating.

You can get heatstroke if you work or exercise in hot conditions without good air flow and if you don’t drink enough water.

What are the symptoms of heatstroke?

If you have heatstroke, you will usually not be sweating. Your skin may be red, hot and dry.

Heat exhaustion is a milder heat-related illness that can lead to heatstroke if not treated, so it’s important to recognise the symptoms early. If you have heat exhaustion, you will usually be sweating a lot, and have pale, cool, damp skin.

Other symptoms of heat exhaustion include:

  • dizziness and weakness
  • headache
  • nausea or vomiting
  • rapid pulse and fast, shallow breathing
  • muscle cramps (known as heat cramps)
  • fainting
  • feeling restless and anxious
  • heat rash

If heat exhaustion turns into heatstroke, you may notice these additional symptoms:

  • sudden rise in body temperature
  • dry, swollen tongue
  • intense thirst
  • slurred speech
  • problems coordinating movements
  • aggressive or strange behaviour
  • seizures
  • confusion and loss of consciousness

How can I prevent heatstroke?

  • Drink plenty of water, even if you’re not thirsty. Avoid alcohol and hot or sugary drinks.

Heatstroke is a medical emergency. If someone has heatstroke, call triple zero (000) and ask for an ambulance.

While you are waiting for the ambulance, try to cool them down in any way you can.

  • Give them sips of cool fluid if they are conscious.
  • Lay them in a cool shady place.
  • Remove excess clothing.
  • Sponge or spray them with cool water or cover them with wet towels or clothing and fan their damp skin.
  • Put them in cool water or a cool shower.
  • Place cold packs on their cheeks, palms and soles.
  • If they are unconscious, place them on their side with their mouth down and their chin up. You may need to do CPR.
  • Do not give aspirin, ibuprofen or paracetamol to someone with heatstroke.

AUTRA National Championships

All runners taking part in the UTRA50 Course who are Australian Citizen or permanent resident will be eligible for the ‘2026 AUTRA Short Course Trail National Championship’ awards.

The First 3 Male and Female Runners across the line in the UTRA50 who are 24 years of age or older on the day of the event will be awarded the National Championships Titles.

AUTRA Junior National Championships

The First 3 Male and Female Runners across the line in the UTRA50 who are Under 24 years of age on the day of the event will be awarded the Junior National Championships Titles.

AUTRA Age Group National Championships

First Place Male and Female in each Age Group Category in the UTRA will be awarded National Championships Titles, 2nd and 3rd place will receive Trail Run Australia awards.

Important Note: All ‘on the day’ entries are required to be completed ONLINE using phone, device or computer before registration can be accepted.

Where an event is not fully subscribed by close of standard entries, full price online entries will be made available the day after standard entries close.

Time to celebrate your amazing achievements!

1st, 2nd and 3rd place medallions or tokens will be presented to all age groups in all courses, and those on top of the podium will take home a prize from our amazing Trail Run Australia partners.

Finishers Momento/Medal

Finishers in all events will be presented with a Trail Run Australia Finishers Momento or Medallion.

Prize and Medallion Collection

Participants must be present in person to collect category prizes and/or spot prizes.  Unfortunately due to past circumstances, it is not possible for medals or prizes to be collected by other persons in the recipients absence.

AUTRA Membership

AUTRA & the National Short Course Trail Championships

Anyone can take part in the Trail Run Australia UTRA50—all you need is to meet the minimum age requirement. However, to be officially recognised (and eligible to win) the 2026 AUTRA National Short Course Trail Championship, you must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident. Visitors on work permits, student visas, or tourist visas are not eligible for the Championship title.

You don’t need to be an AUTRA member to race the Championships, but membership comes with perks—including $10 off your entry.

Open National Championships

  • The first 3 male and female finishers in the UTRA50, aged 24 years or older on race day, will be awarded the AUTRA National Championship titles.

Junior National Championships

  • The first 3 male and female finishers in the UTRA50, aged under 24 years on race day, will be awarded the AUTRA Junior National Championship titles.

Age Group National Championships

  • The first place male and female in each UTRA50 age group category will be awarded an AUTRA National Championship title.

  • Second and third place in each age group will receive Trail Run Australia awards.

Athletes will be able to book at bus to take them from Lake Crackenback Resort and Spa to the start at:

  • UTRA50 and TRA30 – Claypits Park Jindabyne
  • TRA21 – Thredbo River Picnic Ground, Jindabyne

  • UTRA50 and TRA30 – Departs Lake Crackenback Resort and Spa at 5:45am – Parking is available at Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa.
  • TRA21 – Departs Lake Crackenback Resort and Spa at 8:30am – Parking is available at Perisher Car Park next to Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa with a bus to shuttle participants the 800m to the resort

Driviing to the Start: Drop & Go Zone – Very Limited Parking Parking

Please note there is VERY LIMITED PARKING at the start, however, a Drop & Go zone will be set up where athletes can be dropped by supporters.  If using the Drop & Go, please drive in, drop off the participant and depart.

Safety

Safety & First Aid

Your safety is a key consideration; however, trail running events do involve risk.  Dedicated first aiders are on hand at Race HQ and on the course to assist where necessary.

3 SAFETY RULES
  1. Stop and assist any competitor that is in need of emergency assistance.
  2. Report any incident to the next available marshal or emergency radio point on the course.
  3. Compete within your abilities.

On the course there are a number of things you can do to assist yourselves and fellow competitors:

  • Slow down in steep or technically challenging areas.
  • Run on the left hand side of tracks.
  • Compete within your limits.
  • Let common sense and courtesy prevail.  We want to see you safe and sound at the end of the event.
FIRST AID

First Aid will be located at Race HQ and at manned check points on the course.  Please check the course map in the Athletes Guide or at Race HQ for locations

CHECK POINTS

There are check points on the course, staffed by First Aid Qualified team members. These are marked on the course map.

EMERGENCY EVACUATION

In the event of fire or other emergency, follow instructions from event officials.  On the course marshals will direct you back to the Evacuation Meeting Point at HQ.  Please follow instructions from Emergency Personnel and/or event officials.

Hydration & Nutrition

HYDRATION & HEAT STROKE

Heat Stroke is a serious medical emergency and a life threatening condition which can result in death.

Heatstroke is a condition in which your body overheats and can no longer maintain a healthy temperature.  Heatstroke occurs when your body temperature rises from about 37°C to above 40°C.

Heatstroke needs immediate first aid to lower your body temperature as quickly as possible. If not, it can lead to organ damage and death.  The risk of death increases the hotter you get and the longer you are overheated.

Heatstroke is caused by prolonged exposure to heat. It can occur when your body absorbs more heat than it can get rid of by sweating.

You can get heatstroke if you work or exercise in hot conditions without good air flow and if you don’t drink enough water.

What are the symptoms of heatstroke?

If you have heatstroke, you will usually not be sweating. Your skin may be red, hot and dry.

Heat exhaustion is a milder heat-related illness that can lead to heatstroke if not treated, so it’s important to recognise the symptoms early. If you have heat exhaustion, you will usually be sweating a lot, and have pale, cool, damp skin.

Other symptoms of heat exhaustion include:

  • dizziness and weakness
  • headache
  • nausea or vomiting
  • rapid pulse and fast, shallow breathing
  • muscle cramps (known as heat cramps)
  • fainting
  • feeling restless and anxious
  • heat rash

If heat exhaustion turns into heatstroke, you may notice these additional symptoms:

  • sudden rise in body temperature
  • dry, swollen tongue
  • intense thirst
  • slurred speech
  • problems coordinating movements
  • aggressive or strange behaviour
  • seizures
  • confusion and loss of consciousness

Dehydration and heat exhaustion are milder heat-related illnesses. They can lead to heatstroke if they’re not treated.

How can I prevent heatstroke?

  • Drink plenty of water, even if you’re not thirsty. Avoid alcohol and hot or sugary drinks.
  • Keep cool — try to avoid direct sun and wear lightweight, loose cotton clothing.
  • Wear a hat and take water.

What should I do if someone has heat stroke?

Heatstroke is a medical emergency. If someone has heatstroke, call triple zero (000) and ask for an ambulance.

While you are waiting for the ambulance, try to cool them down in any way you can.

  • Give them sips of cool fluid if they are conscious.
  • Lay them in a cool shady place.
  • Remove excess clothing.
  • Sponge or spray them with cool water or cover them with wet towels or clothing and fan their damp skin.
  • Put them in cool water or a cool shower.
  • Place cold packs on their cheeks, palms and soles.
  • If they are unconscious, place them on their side with their mouth down and their chin up. You may need to do CPR.
  • Do not give aspirin, ibuprofen or paracetamol to someone with heatstroke.

FAQ’s

Why Have Compulsory Equipment?

As Event Organisers we are often asked why ‘Compulsory Equipment’ is included as part of some of our races.  The simple answer to this question is that it’s about keeping participants safe, which is the number one priority in any decision making related to our events.

Compulsory Equipment lists are developed by the event team and experts in the area based on a number of factors.  These include, but are not limited to:

  1. The general weather conditions in the area;
  2. Duration and distance of the course;
  3. Technical difficulty of the course;
  4. Event terrain;
  5. The remoteness of the event course;
  6. Time to emergency response;
  7. Time to hospital/medical services;
  8. Expected participants skill level; and
  9. Weather conditions on the day.

Compulsory equipment lists are developed based on what we believe is the minimum to keep our participants safe and well if they are delayed for any reason during the event.

Most times compulsory equipment won’t be needed during an event, however in the case where participants may find themselves injured, immobilised or exhausted, especially in poor weather conditions, then the compulsory equipment will aid survival until rescue can be actioned.

We are often asked why participants do not have the option to just take the gear that they think they require, and in an ideal world, this would be great, however, we don’t live in a world where we are able to know every person’s skills, knowledge and experience and their capacity to know and understand what the potential dangers could be.

Instead, we choose to use the experience, knowledge and expertise of those who are highly qualified in this area and have extensive knowledge of the local conditions to guide this decision making.

Another important aspect of an event is ensuring that it is fair for everyone participating.  A compulsory equipment list means that each person is carrying the same gear as every other participant and that is why random gear checks are often carried out during events to ensure that the participant has everything they need to stay safe and that everyone is taking part in the spirit of the event.

How Old Do I Have To Be To Race?

The minimum ages for each race distance are shown on the Entry Tab.

Ages for entry and race categories are calculated as of the 31st December each summer (middle of the race season).

Can I Enter On The Day?

If you miss the entry closure at 5pm Wednesday prior to the event, late online entries are open until 30 minutes before the close of registration on the day.

Do I Need A Licence To Race?

No licence or club membership is required to take part in this event.

Do I Need A Support Crew?

No! A support crew is not allowed for Half Marathon competitors and is not necessary or required for Ultra competitors.

We do however recommend bringing the whole family along to cheer you on and enjoy what the area has to offer.

Can I Carry A Music Device?

Competitors are permitted to wear personal audio equipment whilst taking part in the event.

However all competitors must have one ear clear at all times so that you can hear other runners, other trail users and approaching vehicles. You must switch off music as you approach and pass Course Marshals so that you can hear any directions given to you, you must switch off music when travelling on all public roads/footpaths so you can hear approaching traffic and other users. So while you may use iPods/Music players, it is up to you to use them in a safe manner so that you remain aware of your surroundings and things happening around you at all times.

This is for safety reasons to ensure that runners can be alert to their environment and ensure it is an enjoyable experience for all involved.

What Equipment Will I Need For The Event?

Participants are required to be self-sufficient for the event.

What Happens If An Event Is Cancelled Or Rescheduled?

A decision to cancel or reschedule an event will not be made lightly, however our main focus is competitor safety and respect for the environment in which we operate.  Sometimes situations outside of our control do result in this outcome.

  • A decision on event cancellation or rescheduling may be made on the evening before or on the day of an event.
  • If an event is cancelled a notice will be posted on the event website and social media channels.
  • Full details of applicable credits in the case of a cancellation or rescheduling can be found in the Event Refund Policy

Can I Change Or Transfer My Entry?

It is forbidden to participate in an event under another competitor’s name or to offer your entry to another participant. Transfer of entry to another competitor is not permitted. Details about changing entry details are outlined in the Event Transfer Policy

What If I Have To Withdraw From The Event?

If you are unable to make the event full details are outlined in the EVENT REFUND POLICY outlining necessary actions and follow up in the case of an applicable refund or credit.

Can I Run With A Pram Or Stroller?

Due to the nature of the trails used for the event, running with prams and/or strollers is not permitted.

Do I have to stay for presentations?

Staying for the presentations is not compulsory, however, it is a great way to finish the day and cheer on fellow competitors.  If you are unable to attend the presentation you will not be eligible for random draw prizes.

Medals and prizes can only be given to the actual recipient at presentations, other persons can not collect them on behalf of the recipient.

What if I’ve won a prize or medal & can’t stay for presentations?

If a prize winner is unable to stay for the Prize Giving Ceremony they may organise for their prize and/or token/medallion to be posted to them by contacting the team and sending a registered post bag (no bigger than A4 size for each person) with postage paid to the address below. Prizes and tokens/medallions must be claimed within 4 weeks of the event.

  • Details of the event and award that you are claiming.

Please Note:

  • Medallions / Tokens usually weigh between 50-75g and require an A4 satchel
  • Prizes are usually gift vouchers that will fit in a DL Envelope
  • Prizes and medallions / tokens are packed away in the event trailer post event.  Some events require travel and at times the trailer may not be available to be unpacked for up to 4 weeks post an event.   In some circumstances it can take up to this long for prizes and/or medallions to be distributed when participants are unable to stay for prize giving.
  • Random draw prizes are only applicable for those athletes in attendance at the presentation ceremony on the day.

Lost Property

Personal Equipment can sometimes be forgotton and/or dropped and left behind at an event.

If you have lost anything at the event please contact the team as soon as possible after the event as we can be packing up and clearing the site within 24/48 hours of the event finishing.

If we do have you lost property after the event has finished you can claim it by sending:

  •  A Self Addressed,
  • Postage paid satchel,
  • Large enough to hold your property to,

THE DRIVE TO THE SNOWY MOUNTAINS

Driving the Kosciuszko Alpine Way is remarkable. The route winds its way through quaint country towns and alpine villages, with breathtaking views of the majestic mountains and sparkling rivers.  Take a stopover along the way at one of the many tourist spots including:

COOMA

Have a break in Cooma and visit the Snowy Hydro Discovery Centre and unravel the design and technology of the world famous Snowy Scheme.  Walk along Cooma’s Lambie Street to the Raglan Regional Art Gallery, passing the historic stone and timber architecture of the town.

Visit Cooma’s railhead, a functioning attraction with trains running to a regular timetable. Take a detour along Tourist Drive 1 south of Cooma and drive to the top of Mt Gladstone, 3km south of Cooma. Heidi’s Tea House at the top of Mt Gladstone provides great gluhwein and 360° views over
Cooma, the Monaro, the Snowy Mountains and Mt Kosciuszko.

BERRIDALE

Continuing towards the Snowies and just past the Snowy Mountains airport lies Berridale, a cross-roads village that features a local winery and cafés. Take some time to relax and enjoy the peacefulness.

LAKE JINDABYNE

As you get closer to the Snowy Mountains spectacular Lake Jindabyne comes into view. Stop at the Jindabyne Dam wall for  some great photos and scenic views. In Jindabyne itself visit the Snowy Region Visitor Centre for park passes and maps, and to view an interpretive display of the towns
amazing history.

In Jindabyne cycle along the lake’s edge, take a scenic or fishing boat charter, take to the air in a scenic flight or hire a runabout or catamaran for time on the water.

In Banjo Patterson park visit the monument to Count Paul Edmund Strzelecki, and learn about his amazing contribution to the region. Fish for Rainbow and Brown Trout, the occasional Brookie or Atlantic salmon from the lake, or in one of the many surrounding streams.

SOME TIPS WHEN DRIVING

1. In Australia we drive on the left – quite important to remember this one
2. Try to avoid driving around dusk and dawn as these are the main times for the local wildlife, including some very big roos, to be out on the road.  You don’t want to tangle with them, even in a vehicle.
3. Don’t underestimate distances. Australia is a big country and travelling between major towns and cities can be 100’s of kms (1 mile = 1.6km).

Whether you’re seeking a casual bite or a gourmet dining experience, roam the countryside savouring differing tastes throughout where all budgets are catered for.

The ski resorts and the Snowy Hydro Scheme have brought to the region chefs and restaurateurs from across the world. From Lebanese to Thai, Austrian, Chinese and Prussian, there is a multi-cultural plate to please your palette.

There are a number of great places to dine in the towns and villages in the region where a number of restaurants are BYO. If you opt for self-catering accommodation, you’ll have no trouble stocking up at one of the region’s many quality food stores, deli’s, patisseries and supermarkets.

The Snowy Mountains boasts the only Schnapps Distillery in Australia where beautiful local fruit is used to make delicious Raspberry, Pear or Apple Schnapps.

The region is also home to famous cold climate wines and local beers that will tempt the discerning traveller. And, we also have a cookie factory that is building a huge reputation and is a popular tourist stop.

Mountain weather can be very unpredictable and can change very quickly.

Summer temperatures can get as high as the mid-thirties in the townships of the Snowy Mountains, however the night-time temperatures can get down to sub-zero on occasion, so be prepared for any weather. During the summer months temperatures will always be a few degrees cooler the higher the elevation you travel to.

Geography & Climate

The Snowy Mountains are in the south east of New South Wales, and are the highest point in Australia’s Great Dividing Range. Much of the region is incorporated into Kosciuszko National Park. At 2,228m, Mount Kosciuszko is the highest peak on the Australian mainland. The flat expanse of the Monaro High Plain to the east of the region is sheep country renowned for the quality of its Merino wool.
